6 places to see in AlUla this season
From Hegra's carved tombs to a lookout 1,219 metres up, six AlUla sights to plan a cooler-weather trip around, with prices and opening times from Experience AlUla.
AlUla's visitor season picks up as the heat eases. These six sights cover the ancient sites, the rock formations and the views; the details below are taken from Experience AlUla, the destination's official site, where tours are booked.
Hegra
Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site, with more than 110 Nabataean tombs carved into the rock. Visits are by organised tour only, by coach or private 4x4. The Hegra Day Tour starts from SAR 95 per person and the Premium Tour from SAR 1,000 per vehicle. Booking ahead is strongly advised as daily places are limited.
Elephant Rock
a 52-metre sandstone formation shaped by wind and rain, about 20 minutes' drive from Old Town. It is open daily from 16:00, with seating, fire pits and food trucks, and the rock is lit at dusk. Climbing it is not allowed.
AlUla Old Town
a mud-brick settlement dating from the 12th century, once a stop on the incense and pilgrimage routes. Entry is free. A storytelling walk with a local guide costs about SAR 70 per adult, and a twilight walk linking Old Town and the Oasis runs from 30 October to 12 December for SAR 90.
Jabal Ikmah
a canyon known as AlUla's open-air library for its hundreds of ancient inscriptions, listed on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register. It is visited on a guided tour that also takes in the ancient city of Dadan, from SAR 60.
Maraya
the mirrored concert hall in Ashar Valley, covered in 9,740 reflective panels and holding a Guinness World Record as the largest mirrored building. It hosts concerts and events; check the Maraya Tour listing for visits.
Harrat Viewpoint
a lookout on the volcanic Harrat Uwayrid, 1,219 metres above sea level, about 30 minutes from Old Town. Entry is free with no booking needed, from 14:00 to 22:00, with telescopes, fire pits and a pizza bar. Nights are cool and windy, so bring a warm layer.
Checked on Experience AlUla on 12 October 2026. Prices and times can change, so confirm on the booking page before you travel.
