You visit Hegra, Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site, on a guided tour booked through Experience AlUla. The Hegra Day Tour costs from SAR 95 a person and the private Hegra Premium Tour from SAR 1,000 a vehicle for up to seven people; both include entry to the site.
Hegra, AlUla
Hegra is visited on a guided tour booked through Experience AlUla, the official travel site of the Royal Commission for AlUla. The Hegra Day Tour costs from SAR 95 a person and lasts about three hours, including the transfer. The Hegra Premium Tour costs from SAR 1,000 for a private vehicle that seats up to seven, and lasts two hours. Both prices include entry to the site, which is Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site.
What Hegra is
Hegra was home to the Nabataeans, and people lived here from before the first millennium BCE. Experience AlUla says the site has more than 110 well-preserved tombs carved into the desert rock, where the Nabataean elite were buried. Some carry inscriptions describing the person laid inside: perhaps a healer, a military figure or a local leader. Away from the tombs you can see carved stone blocks, or betyls, that stood for the gods, wells and stone-lined water channels, and walls, gates and towers that show Roman influence.
Hegra Day Tour
This is the shared tour with one of AlUla's Rawis, the local guides who tell the site's stories. It starts at the Winter Park bus stop, where parking is free, and travels by air-conditioned coach, with up to 45 people a bus. The tour stops at the Tomb of Lihyan, Son of Kuza, the Diwan halls, tomb facades and rock carvings. It runs in English and Arabic, welcomes all ages and is listed as available year-round. Price: from SAR 95 a person, entry included. It is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers.
Hegra Premium Tour
The premium tour is a private 4x4 with a driver, a Rawi and a ranger, starting at the Hegra Visitor Centre, where parking is free. One ticket covers the whole vehicle, up to seven passengers, and your guide may be shared with a second vehicle, for a group of up to 14. It lasts two hours, runs in English and Arabic, welcomes all ages and costs from SAR 1,000 a vehicle, entry included. Experience AlUla warns that some areas of Hegra may be closed during your visit because of maintenance and excavation work.
Hegra Geology Hike this season
A limited-capacity walk among Hegra's rock formations runs every Saturday at 4pm from 24 October to 12 December 2026: on 24 and 31 October, 7, 14, 21 and 28 November, and 5 and 12 December. It lasts 1 hour 45 minutes and starts at the Hegra Visitor Centre. Tickets cost SAR 150 for adults and SAR 35 for children aged 6 to 12. The horse-drawn carriage tour of Hegra is listed as "coming back soon", with no date published.
