Experience AlUla has added a Hegra Geology Hike to its season, held every Saturday from 24 October to 12 December. Hegra is Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site and has more than 100 monumental Nabataean tombs.

The walk is 1.2 km, rated easy to moderate, and lasts 1 hour 45 minutes. A Rawi, AlUla's expert storytellers, and a Heritage Ranger lead groups of seven through the sandstone formations and explain the geology that shaped the tombs. Guests are driven to and from the start point in a vintage Land Rover, and the walk ends at sunset with Saudi coffee and dates.

The eight dates are 24 and 31 October, 7, 14, 21 and 28 November, and 5 and 12 December. Each hike starts at 16:00 sharp from the Hegra Visitor Centre, where parking is free.

Tickets are SAR 150 per adult and SAR 35 per child aged 6 to 12; the hike is not suitable for children under 6 or for wheelchair users. Book on the Experience AlUla website, where a few tickets are also kept for sale on site. Arrive at least 15 minutes early, as late entry is not allowed, and wear loose, light clothes and sturdy walking shoes. Bring water or buy it at the visitor centre. Cancellations are accepted up to three days before, and every experience depends on the weather. Enquiries: 920025003, Sunday to Thursday, 08:00 to 17:00.
