Moroccan conjoined twins separated in six-hour Riyadh surgery

Surgeons in Riyadh have separated Moroccan conjoined twins Saja and Dhuha in a six-hour operation, the 73rd carried out under the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program.

Moroccan conjoined twins Saja and Dhuha were separated on Thursday at King Abdullah Specialized Children's Hospital in King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh. The operation took six hours and was carried out in six stages.

The team was led by Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, adviser at the Royal Court and supervisor general of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre. He said 23 consultants, specialists, nurses and technicians took part. The girls were joined at the chest and abdomen.

This is the fourth pair of conjoined twins from Morocco to be separated in the Kingdom. The Saudi Conjoined Twins Program has now completed 73 operations in more than 35 years and has assessed 159 cases from 28 countries.
