How to renew your Saudi driving licence on Absher

Renewal is done online in six steps: check the expiry window, clear fines, pass the medical, pick 2, 5 or 10 years on Absher, pay and give a delivery address.

A private driving licence in Saudi Arabia can be renewed without visiting a traffic office. The service is listed on the national platform my.gov.sa and is carried out through the Absher account of the licence holder, citizen or resident. These are the steps and conditions the official listings give.

1. Check the expiry date: The service listing says the licence must have less than 180 days of validity left before a renewal request is accepted.

2. Clear traffic violations: Any unpaid traffic fines recorded against you must be settled first. The renewal will not go through while violations are outstanding.

3. Complete the medical examination: A medical check at an accredited centre is required. The listing does not state the cost of the examination, which is set by the centre.

4. Open the service on Absher: Sign in to Absher, go to My Services, choose Traffic, then select the driving licence renewal service. Read the terms, check that your personal details are correct, choose a renewal period of 2, 5 or 10 years, and confirm.

5. Pay the fee: my.gov.sa lists a price of SAR 40, and the Ministry of Interior's fee table gives SAR 40 a year for a private licence, so the total depends on the period you choose. Confirm the amount shown on the Absher screen before paying. Payment is by SADAD or by Mada, Visa or Mastercard.

6. Enter your delivery address: Add your National Address so the new licence can be delivered. The listing does not state a delivery time.
