Third National Greening Season aims to restore 60,000 more hectares
The 2026 National Greening Season, which began on 7 October, plans to sow more than 110 tonnes of seeds from 70 native species across the Kingdom.
Saudi Arabia's National Greening Season is under way for the third year, under the slogan "A generation plants for a thriving nation". It began on 7 October and is led by the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and the National Greening Program, as part of the Saudi Green Initiative.
This season targets an extra 60,000 hectares of restored land, with more than 110 tonnes of seeds from 70 native species, backed by cloud seeding to help them grow. The previous two seasons rehabilitated more than 51,000 hectares and sowed 109 tonnes of seeds from 40 species. The national target is 350,000 restored hectares by 2030.
Regional launches have been held across the Kingdom, including in Riyadh, Tabuk, Najran and Makkah, and universities and local offices of the environment ministry are running their own planting and awareness events. The season focuses on native plants suited to the local climate and on volunteering by companies, charities and individuals. The announcement does not name a sign-up platform or an end date for the season; anyone who wants to take part can follow the National Greening Program's official channels and their region's environment ministry office for local planting days.
